An Anatomic Analysis of the Bony Vault: From the Perspective of Osteotomy in Rhinoplasty

Overview

Osteotomy means deliberately cutting or fracturing the nasal bones to narrow or straighten the bony part of the nose. The authors asked how thick the bone actually is along the paths a surgeon cuts. They reviewed preoperative three dimensional facial bone computed tomography images from 250 patients scheduled for primary rhinoplasty, sorted the noses into symmetric and asymmetric bony vaults, and measured thickness at set points.
