Reducing Postoperative Swelling, Edema, and Ecchymosis after Open Rhinoplasty Using Intranasal Drainage

Overview

Blood collecting under the skin after rhinoplasty spreads into the tissue layers and produces bruising and swelling. One strategy is to drain that blood before it infiltrates. The authors used drains in open rhinoplasty performed with wide degloving, meaning the skin is lifted broadly off the nasal framework, and measured bruising, swelling and general puffiness at two time points.
