Sushruta Samhita (c. 1000–800 BC per Hektoen; commonly "600 BC") describes cheek-flap nasal reconstruction. British surgeons Cruso and Findlay saw a Maratha bullock driver, Cowasjee (nose cut off as a prisoner), rebuilt with a forehead flap by a Kumhar (potter) in 1793; letter signed "B.L." printed in *Gentleman's Magazine*, October 1794. Joseph Carpue performed the first European forehead-flap reconstructions in 1814, published 1816.
